Machinima workshop by Isabelle Arvers, Strasbourg 28-09/1-10 2010

Since 2005 I’ve been trying to promote a new phenomenon called machinimas. This movement began at the end of the 90′ when game developers allowed gamers to record game scenes. The first event I organized happened at the Pompidou Center and was untitled “Machinima vs Demos” as we can say that the machinima wee born following the demo scene.

Now, tons of machinimas are created around the world and the machinima scene is growing, there are some specific festivals dedicated to it and a lot of machinima movie makers are then hired by the gaming industry.

To keep the tradition of hacking a mass media to express oneself, I wanted to create some machinima workshops dedicated to youngsters. I talked about my project to Serge Daney, Ososphère Festival Director and he decided to organize it with me.

So, for the first time, next week, I will give a machinima workshop in Strasbourg with some young people from the area of La Laiterie. The idea is to help people to express themselves about their quarter, their memory, their feelings about life through the use of a game engine.

Alut, the administrator of The Movies french community website will help me for the technical and fictional part of the workshop.

More infos will be uploaded on this website soon.
