Difracted conversation explores the porous boundaries between the real and the virtual, as well as between materiality and immateriality. This piece originates from my paintings, which I made on plants or directly within natural landscapes in Thailand. The creative process begins with the 3D scanning of these paintings in situ.
The idea is then to integrate these 3D scans into a video game engine. By doing so, my two-dimensional paintings are transformed into three-dimensional digital sculptures, creating a new dimension and a new interaction with space. What particularly interests me in this project is working with the notions of accident and “glitch.” The representations resulting from these 3D scans are never absolutely perfect; they contain flaws, artifacts, and “accidents” that are inherent to the digitization process.
I find it fascinating to explore this dichotomy between imperfection—the 3D “glitch”—and the often smooth, hyper-realistic representation of images produced in video games. It is within these interstices and transformations that the work reveals its complexity and its ability to question our perception of the real and the digital.
