Pour fêter mes 20 ans de commissariat dans les domaines de l’art et des jeux vidéo, je me suis lancée en juin 2019 dans un tour du monde art et jeux vidéo🎮🕹 🎮🕹  afin d’aller à la rencontre d’artistes du numérique, de développeurs.ses indépendant.e.s dans plus de 15 pays du monde. Pour l’Institut Français du Togo, je vous propose en dix interviews de partir à la découverte de game developer en Afrique. 🎮🕹 🎮🕹 To celebrate 20 years of curating in the fields of art and video games, I embarked in 2019 on an Art + Games World Tour to meet digital artists and independent developers in more than 15 countries around the world. For the French Institute of Togo, I propose ten interviews to discover game developers in Africa.

In this interview we talk about women in video games, feminism, African works of art and artefacts return from Europe, African fantasy, African futurism and the need to reappropriate the narrative by the continent.


Limpho Moeti / Nyamakop / Producer/Business Development/South Africa previously worked at Free Lives (Broforce, Gorn) and was deputy festival director of South Africa’s playful media festival, Playtopia. Currently she works as a producer/biz dev at Nyamakop developing on African-inspired video games. She is one half of the Bad Form Podcast.In her spare time she thinks of ways to smash the patriarchy, topple capitalism and who was the best Batman. She is definitely not a robot sent from the future to destroy humanity but her boss did call her the nuclear bomb of bizdev.

🎮🇹🇬🕹 African video game meetings : Interview of Sithe N’Cube  (ZM)🕹🇹🇬🎮

In this interview we talk about women in video games, feminism, her Prosearium project that aims to promote the different jobs in the game industry and gather more than 1000 women in games in Africa within the next few years.

Sithe believes that more Africans should have a visible stake in the game development industry and benefit financially, culturally and socially from telling their own stories. She does her part in encouraging more people to make games by facilitating introductory game development and interactive fiction workshops. Sithe also enjoys promoting the growth of game development by connecting more Africans to the world’s biggest game development event, Global Game Jam, as one of the Sub-Saharan Africa regional organizers for the event. Sithe is currently a postgraduate Computer Science student at Nelson Mandela University and is the founder of prosearium.net, an initiative with the goal of documenting 1000 African women and their contributions to games.

In this interview we talk about Afrane’s work around etrash gadgets modelised in 3D and exhibited in a video game space. Afrane works with AR, VR and develops unique artgame installations.

Akwasi Bediako Afrane (Makof) (b. 1990) is a Ghanaian artist living and working in Kumasi, Ghana.His works explore the idea of augmentation and extensions between technological gadgets and humans. He works with discarded electronic gadgets which he refers to as “amputees”. He refashions and repurposes these amputees into machines and micro- organisms he describes as “Trons”.

Dans cette interview Coralie Ramakavelo, graphiste et cheffe de projet et Mathieu Rabehaja fondateur du Studio Lomay me parlent de Dahalo, un jeu PC sur les voleurs de zébus dans le sud de Madagascar, un phénomène qui pille les populations du sud. Un jeu en malgache, sous-titré en anglais dont le personnage principal est une femme qui déjoue les stéréotypes de genre.

Lomay est un studio numérique 3D engagé qui développe des jeux vidéos, de la réalité augmentée, ainsi que du motion design.
